CHRIS CHAMPINE (Ballard) Chris recorded a shutout in a big matchup for first place in the Louisville Division, blanking the 'Rocks of Trinity, 2-0. In doing so, he raised his league leading save percentage to .91, the only eligible goalie with a percentage above .90.
PATRICK SULLIVAN (St. X) Patrick had a four goal game for the Tigers, as they won an exciting shootout over Oldham, 6-5.
JANUARY
WEEK 9--MARCUS KNOLL (Dunbar) In an important home game against St. X., Marcus held the Tigers scoreless for the first two periods, giving his team a chance as they too were held scoreless. When the Bulldogs finally opened the scoring gates, they got 4 in the last period, earning a hard fought 4-1 win. Marcus saved 18 of the 19 shots he faced.
WEEK 10--MICHAEL GETZ (Ballard) Some achievements are so out of the ordinary they just have scream for recognition...so it is with Ballard's Michael Getz who recorded SIX goals in his team's 9-6 victory over Lexington Catholic. In an ugly game marred by a number of unfortunate incidents, Getz' play was a bright light of offensive brilliance...he also added a helper, giving him SEVEN points on the night!
WEEK 11--Two four goal scorers get the nod this week...TYLER WINGER (Trinity) and KEVIN BLETHIN (HENRY CLAY) Winger had a four goal night in the 'Rocks big 7-2 win over Division Rival, Ballard. The win puts Trinity in first place in the Louisville Division. Blethin netted his four in an 8-2 win over St. X, one of two wins on the weekend for the Blue Devils, putting them comfortably atop the Lexington Division.
WEEK 12 KYLE FOWLER (Oldham) and ANDREW SWIERGOSZ (Trinity) Fowler is a two time POY as he scored FIVE goals and added TWO assists in an important 8-6 win over Ballard, which moves Oldham into a second place tie with the Bruins. He also added an assist, giving him the circuit best 15 on the season.
FEBRUARY
WEEK 13--RICHARD DOUTHAT (Lafayette) It is always doubly impressive when an exceptional individual performance is fully needed for the team's success, and such is the case this week. Douthat scored 5 goals for the Generals, and his team needed every single one, as they recorded a hard-fought 5-4 win over Dunbar in Lexington.
WEEK 14--RYAN STEVENS (Dunbar) In the third period of a game his Dunbar Bulldogs trailed 3-2 vs. Henry Clay, Stevens scored a power play goal to tie the game at 3. Some 3 minutes later, with two Bulldog players in the penalty box, Stevens scored the go ahead goal, despite his team playing 3 vs. 5, and then helped kill off the remainder of the penalty against a high powered Henry Clay offense. That would prove to be the difference, as Stevens' play was key in turning a 3-2 deficit, into a 5-3 Dunbar victory.
WEEK 15--ZACH WILSON (Henry Clay) Wilson scored a power play goal in the first period over Louisville Division co-leader Ballard to give his team a 2-0 lead. After Oldham scored the next two to tie it up, Zach proceeded to get assists on the next three Blue Devil goals, which gave his team a 5-3 lead they would not relinquish. The win also clinched the regular season crown for Henry Clay in the Lexington Division.
WEEK 16--Steven Tate (Oldham) and Brad Heckmann (Lexington Catholic) Goalie Steven Tate came up big in the biggest game of the year for his team. Facing Trinity in a game that would decide the Louisville regular season championship, Tate turned away 23 of 25 shots, and helped his team to a 3-2 win and the number one seed in Louisville.
Brad Heckmann is trying to make it so the Player of the Week award is named after him in the future, as his torrid scoring continues. He recorded his SEVENTH hat trick of the season on his way to a FIVE goal game, giving him an astonishing 41 goals in 16 games! He is also third in the league in assists, setting up teammates, as well as scoring himself. His 5 goals were not quite enough as the Knights fell to the Lexington regular season champs, Henry Clay, 7-6.
